The Story Behind Ginger & Black.
Back in the day, I have always grown up with dogs. My parents bred Golden Retrievers and 1 litter of Beagles, and I remember how fantastic it was to have a litter of puppies in our home.
From a young age I remember taking some images of the dogs. Looking back, the images weren’t the best, but they were memories, and with photographs it is memories that are the most important. I remember in 1968 I thought it would be a great idea to make my dog famous, so I set up a shot with him behind a can of Coke. My plan was to send the image to Coke and have my dog the “face” for their advertising. 😂 Needless to say it didn’t go any further than the plan stage.
About Graham
My name is Graham and I’m the bloke behind the camera. I can honestly say that EVERY dog I have photographed, and there has been over 6000 in the last 5 years, I have loved, and it has been great fun. Nothing gives me more pleasure than when a client says “you have captured my dogs character”.
As I look through the lens I feel a connection with the dog; I am concentrating so much on their eyes and have no other distractions, so I can then read the dog and understand what it really wants to do. This means I can adapt my shooting to end up with great shots.

Mixing Dogs & Photography
I have always loved taking images, and of course dogs. What really kicked started my photography business was in 2011 when my wife and I got our first puppy together, who we called Sydney. I decided to blend my 2 loves together and constantly took images of Syd. He has got to the stage that he is so professional when there is a camera around that very little guidance is required. Then in 2013 we got another puppy which we called Stanley. He is the same breed as Syd but so different. In front of the camera he was also very different. In his early years a shot was set up, and as soon as the image was taken he used to leave his position thinking that it was over, so the shoots took a long time. Now at the age of 6 he is a true professional, just like Syd.
These two dogs are how I came to name my photography business Ginger & Black Photography. It just worked the colour of the two and the business is of course taking images of dogs.
